Growing Freedom: Om Suleiman Farm in Bil‘in

To the West of Ramallah, in the village of Bil‘in, lies Om Suleiman Farm. In Arabic, “Om” means “mother”; a deeply rooted expression Palestinians often use to describe their intimate bond with the land.
The farm sits on land that is fertile, yet also carries deep political and historical significance. Located near an Israeli settlement, it was once confiscated by the Israeli authorities for the construction of the Wall, then reclaimed after years of peaceful resistance, legal struggle, and collective action by villagers and landowners.
What now stands there is more than reclaimed soil; it is a living act of continuity. Young people and local activists transformed the space into an organic farm, not only to protect it from further future confiscation, but also to cultivate it, both literally and symbolically, while producing organic goods for local markets.
Om Suleiman Farm is part of a wider movement of similar initiatives across Palestine. Yet it stands out as a place where environmental care and political presence meet, bringing Palestinians and internationals together around a shared commitment to land, dignity, and sustainability.
